Oliver had a rough beginning… abused and abandoned… but with lots of love and gentle training, he responded and thrived. There’s nothing like that love/trust/comfort feeling we get from the unconditional love of our pets. Oliver was absolutely our bestest boy. In his memory, Oliver’s Collar Dog Treat Bakery was conceived.

We began experimenting with treat recipes in early 2011. By September we had six solid flavors to begin courting wholesale accounts. By 2013 (still baking out of our home kitchen), it was time to quit my job and move the whole operation to our first retail location in Durham’s Woodcroft Shopping Center. Six years later, with a lot of hard work and a little luck, we needed a larger space. In August 2019 we moved to the current location 2 miles down the road in the Southpoint Crossing plaza.

Six months later, COVID hit. We were lucky enough to be “essential”, and thrived with the new move despite the social restrictions in a shifting retail environment. In the past few years we’ve seen many of our peers shutter their storefronts, and we’ve had our own struggles navigating in the new world.

Online subscription based options have taken over 40% of our business, and we just can’t compete. Therefore… when our lease is at it’s end in September 2024, we will be closing our doors.

Until then… we are paring down to the essentials: our on-site baked goods, a wide variety of other packaged treats, dog food and cat food, toys, essentials.

Come shop with us!. We are still a full service dog bakery and retail pet supply store. We also have a self-service dog wash.

Thank you for supporting LOCAL. lt’s more important than ever.

Sincerely,
